IELTS WRITING TOPIC 1:

Many young children are becoming obese nowadays.

……..

According to statistics, obesity among children is increasing worldwide. Certain factors allow this unhealthy growth in weight to progress. If these will not be addressed, detrimental effects may occur.

Unknowingly, parents, especially the busy ones contribute to obesity for the reason that they lack time to supervise and guide their children with proper diet and healthy lifestyle. Another significant factor is modern technology. Nowadays, children need not to leave the house to play. Virtual computer games are more preferred for they only have sit comfortably to enjoy than to go outside under the scourching heat of the sun. Alongside the playing are voluminous unhealthy snacks and drink to fuel them throughout. Additionally, some children turn to food whenever they are sad or upset. They use food as a form of relief from these depressing feelings therefore packing up the weight.

If these roots continue to grow undesirable effects may occur. These children will be affected in many aspects of their life, physically, physiologically and psychologically. Take for one, physically,  their heaviness will limit their abilities to do certain physical activities such as sports. Physiologically, they will be predispoed to weight-related diseases such as diabetes and coronary heart diseases. Psychologically, levels of insecurity will be heightened because of the dissatisfaction they see in the mirror as well as judgement and bullying by the other peers. This will lead to further emotional eating, repeating the cycle all over again.

Overall, the common denominator for obesity is the lack of guidance and supervision of parents of which branched to more problems that lead to obesity. Moreover, as parents, these are one of the many roles of parenthood they should not fail to provide.
